## In Short
- MauBank reported profit before tax of Rs 1.18 billion for the financial year ended 30 June 2026, up 30% year on year.
- Profit after tax rose 6% to Rs 878 million, even as the bank’s tax bill jumped.
- Loans and advances grew 13% to Rs 34.06 billion, deposits rose 18% to Rs 59.85 billion.
- Total assets increased 18.5% to Rs 68.23 billion.

## What Happened
[MauBank](/maubank) said its profit before tax rose 30% to Rs 1.18 billion in FY2026, up from Rs 908 million the prior year. The bank’s profit after tax came in at Rs 878 million, a 6% increase from Rs 829 million in FY2025.

The bank pointed to higher operating income and lower impairment charges as key drivers. Impairment charges are the provisions banks set aside for loans that may not be repaid.

Net operating income rose 8% to Rs 2.88 billion, while interest income grew 7% to Rs 3.22 billion. Non-interest income, before fees and commission expenses, increased 32% to Rs 1.20 billion, helped by stronger trading and gains from investment disposals. Net trading income rose 12% to Rs 708 million.

Tax was a drag on bottom-line growth. MauBank said its corporate tax contribution rose from Rs 79 million in 2025 to Rs 298 million in 2026, an increase of more than 277%, which reduced the pace of profit after tax growth.

On the balance sheet, lending expanded and deposits grew faster. Net loans and advances to customers rose 13% to Rs 34.06 billion, while customer deposits were up 18% to Rs 59.85 billion. Total assets increased to Rs 68.23 billion at 30 June 2026.

## Why It Matters
For Mauritius banking, MauBank’s results show that balance sheet growth is continuing, with deposits rising strongly and lending expanding.

The numbers also highlight a key profitability lever for banks, credit quality. Lower impairment charges can lift profits even when interest income growth is modest.

Management said the next focus is turning the bank’s larger scale into “sustainable earnings growth,” with more disciplined lending, deeper customer relationships, and improved operational efficiency.
