## What Happened: Lori Systems Data On Empty Truck Return Trips
[Lori Systems](/lori-systems) CEO Jean-Claude Homawoo highlighted empty return journeys in remarks at HAULMACE.

Homawoo said the company’s Nigerian platform data showed that only about two in every 100 northbound trips were followed by a return load for the same truck this year. A return load means the truck carries cargo on the way back instead of driving empty.

The BusinessDay report also points to prolonged cargo delays and poor utilisation of trucks. Poor utilisation means trucks are not being used efficiently, for example, when they sit idle or drive without cargo.

## Why It Matters
Empty return trips can increase costs for logistics operators because a truck still burns fuel and ties up driver time even when it is not carrying goods.

Low return-load rates can also reduce how much work a single truck can complete, which can contribute to capacity constraints and delays across the supply chain.
