## Content

## In Short
KCB Bank Uganda says it will expand financing support for Uganda’s mining sector and mineral value addition.

## What Happened
KCB Bank Uganda, part of [KCB Bank](/kcb-group), reaffirmed its plan to finance Uganda’s push to process more minerals locally, instead of exporting raw materials.

The bank will sponsor the 15th Annual Mineral Wealth Conference 2026 as a Diamond sponsor. The event is scheduled for September 29 and 30 at Speke Resort Munyonyo. It is organised by the Uganda Chamber of Energy and Minerals with the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Development.

The conference will be followed by an Eastern Uganda excursion from October 1 to 3. The goal is to help investors assess mineral sites and meet operators across the extractives supply chain.

Uganda’s pitch is getting louder after high-resolution aeromagnetic surveys, meaning airborne scans that help map mineral deposits, identified more than 58 mineral categories. These include rare earth elements, lithium, copper, cobalt, graphite and iron ore. Many of these are key inputs for batteries, electronics, steel, and clean energy equipment.

At the Uganda Media Centre, Minister of State for Minerals Phiona Nyamutoro said the focus should be on value addition, meaning processing and refining minerals in-country to capture more jobs and revenue. KCB’s trade finance manager Fred Hirya said the bank can support asset financing for equipment, working capital for operations, and project finance for processing plants. The report did not disclose any financing amount.

## Why It Matters
For miners and suppliers, access to structured finance can decide whether a project moves from exploration to production and processing. Trade finance, which is short-term funding that helps pay suppliers while goods move across borders, can also help local contractors participate in regional and global supply chains.

For Uganda, the message is clear. The country wants capital, technology, and infrastructure partners who can build processing and manufacturing capacity, not just dig and ship ore. If banks like KCB follow through with bankable products for processing facilities, it could speed up investment decisions in mineral value chains.
