## Content

## In Short
JUMO and Standard Bank have launched a Social Finance Framework.

The goal is to make it easier to raise “social finance”, meaning funding tied to measurable social outcomes.

The framework will support future social loans and social bonds for inclusive lending across JUMO’s nine African markets.

## What Happened
On 25 August 2026, [JUMO](/jumo) said it partnered with Standard Bank to create a Social Finance Framework (SFF). A framework like this is a rulebook that defines what the money can be used for and how impact is tracked.

The SFF is designed to align with international sustainable finance guidelines. It aims to provide a clearer structure for raising social loans and social bonds. A social bond is a debt instrument where proceeds are earmarked for projects with defined social benefits.

JUMO said the funding will go into lending activities on its technology platform for underserved individuals, microenterprises, and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The company operates in nine African markets, including Ghana, Kenya, Tanzania, Zambia, Uganda, Côte d’Ivoire, South Africa, Benin, and Cameroon.

JUMO also shared performance figures to show scale. It said it has delivered more than $11 billion in lifetime disbursements and over 315 million loans since inception. It also cited 79% year-on-year growth in disbursements and record monthly volumes.

The framework received a positive second party opinion from Endiligence. This is an external review that checks whether the framework’s design matches accepted sustainable finance standards.

## Why It Matters
More African digital lenders are trying to access longer-term and lower-cost capital, not only short-term credit lines. A documented social finance framework can widen the pool of funders to include development finance institutions and impact investors.

For regulators and investors, the bigger issue is trust and reporting. Standardised governance and impact measurement can make it easier to compare “inclusive finance” claims with real outcomes, like reaching new-to-bank customers and underbanked groups.

If JUMO can convert the framework into actual bond or loan issuances, it could increase credit supply for SMEs and microbusinesses. That matters in markets where working capital is scarce and expensive.
