## Content

## In Short
Jaiz Bank says its financing portfolio is almost ₦800 billion.

The bank says more than ₦100 billion of that supports trade tied to cocoa, cashew and other non oil export related products.

## What Happened: Jaiz Bank Financing For Exports, MSMEs, And Productive Sectors
[Jaiz Bank](/jaiz-bank) managing director Dr Haruna Musa said the bank’s financing portfolio was worth almost ₦800 billion, with more than ₦100 billion supporting trade involving cocoa, cashew and other non oil export related products.

Musa said expanding access to financing for export businesses, micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) and other productive sectors should be a priority for non interest banks to boost economic growth and create jobs. Non interest banking is banking that does not charge or pay interest, and instead uses contract based structures.

He said financial institutions should understand the nature of each business and structure financing to match operations and cash flow.

“In the non interest banking model, we have various contracts, and these contracts must align with the business model and cash flows,” Musa said.

Musa also called for increased financing for MSMEs and manufacturing, and said local industries needed support to expand production.

He said solar energy should be another focus for non interest financing, including electricity for essential facilities such as hospitals. He added that financing should cover businesses across the solar value chain, not only solar installations.

Musa said agriculture should also be a priority, with financing across farm inputs, processing and distribution.

## Why It Matters
Musa’s comments point to how non interest banks are positioning their financing around exports and domestic production, including manufacturing, agriculture and solar energy.

He also argued for wider access to non interest services for women, young people and rural communities.

On access to banking services, Musa said digital platforms and partnerships with financial technology companies were becoming more important. He said he had gone almost a year without visiting a bank branch because he conducted transactions on his mobile phone.
