## Content

## In Short
- inDrive held its Safety Summit 3.0 in Abuja on October 12, 2026.
- The focus was “Transparency” and better safety for drivers and riders.
- Stakeholders called for closer collaboration across mobility platforms, government, and law enforcement.

## What Happened
[inDrive](/indrive) says safer mobility in Nigeria needs joint action from drivers, passengers, government agencies, and ride-hailing operators.

At the Safety Summit 3.0 event in Abuja, inDrive Nigeria country leadership said the company created the platform to provide affordable and safe transport. The company said the summit was designed to educate stakeholders on practical safety steps, and to produce measurable results.

inDrive said it has been working with government agencies to improve driver verification. Driver verification is the set of checks used to confirm a driver’s identity and documents, similar to KYC checks in banking. The company also said it is working to improve response times with the Nigeria Police Force and to strengthen driver onboarding in partnership with the Federal Road Safety Corps, FRSC.

The company also highlighted safety tools already live in its app. These include liveness checks, which help confirm a real person is using an account and not a photo or fake identity. It also listed order-feed moderation and in-app chat moderation, which are controls that flag risky content or abusive messages. Another feature mentioned was dangerous-area alerts, which notify drivers about locations with higher safety risk.

Officials from Nigeria’s Federal Ministry of Transportation said road safety is a shared responsibility. The ministry urged mobility operators to keep investing in verification, vehicle safety, passenger protection, emergency response systems, and public awareness.

## Why It Matters
Ride-hailing and delivery services depend on trust. If riders feel unsafe or drivers face higher risk on trips, usage drops and costs rise.

For platforms, tighter verification and faster incident response can reduce fraud, harassment, and impersonation. For regulators, the push signals that safety work is shifting from general awareness campaigns to more operational collaboration, including law enforcement coordination and standardised onboarding.

For Nigerian mobility startups and operators, the summit also points to a likely expectation that safety features, reporting workflows, and driver screening become part of the baseline product, not optional add-ons.
