## Content

## In Short
Investing in Innovation Africa (i3) announced four new healthtech partnerships at its Access to Markets event in Rwanda. The deals focus on pharmacy finance, digital chronic disease care, medicine supply chains, and pharmacy regulation.

## What Happened
At its fourth annual Access to Markets event in Rwanda, i3 said the partnerships will help African healthtech companies expand access to healthcare and medicines. The programme connects startups with banks, pharma firms, technology providers, and regulators.

In Tanzania, [Dawa Mkononi](/dawa-mkononi) signed an agreement with NMB Bank to offer interest-free working capital to pharmacies, drug shops, and health facilities. The financing will use Dawa Mkononi’s credit scoring platform, meaning a system that estimates how likely a borrower is to repay (like a risk rating). i3 said the platform has enabled more than US$6 million in credit to frontline facilities, with a 0.3% non-performing rate.

In Kenya, [MYDAWA](/mydawa) will work with Endless Health to co-design and test a digital-first model for hypertension and diabetes care for low and middle-income patients. Digital-first here means patients start with remote support and structured follow-ups, instead of relying only on clinic visits. The initiative, developed with Ariadne Labs, aims to gather evidence on whether private pharmacies can deliver structured chronic disease services at scale across East Africa.

MYDAWA is also partnering with [Turn.io](/turn-io) to improve patient communication using WhatsApp-based engagement tools.

On medicine supply, [Meditect](/meditect) secured debt financing from Boehringer Ingelheim to expand access to affordable and authentic pharmaceuticals across Sub-Saharan Africa. i3 said this will also support Meditect’s work to digitise pharmaceutical supply chains.

In Nigeria, [Sproxil](/sproxil) and the Pharmacy Council of Nigeria signed a Memorandum of Collaboration to strengthen pharmacy regulation using digital tools and artificial intelligence. The scope includes a national e-pharmacy platform, oversight of online medicine sales, digitising field audits, and expanding continuing professional development for pharmacists.

## Why It Matters
Many African health systems rely on private pharmacies as a first point of care, especially for chronic conditions like hypertension and diabetes. These deals signal growing interest in using pharmacies as scalable care and distribution channels.

They also show where partnerships are heading in African healthtech, blended finance for last-mile providers, WhatsApp-based patient support, supply chain digitisation to reduce counterfeit risk, and tech-enabled regulation.

i3 said the new agreements build on its market access programme, which has facilitated more than 760 tailored introductions and contributed to 165 partnerships, pilots, and memoranda of understanding valued at more than US$19 million.
