## Content

## In Short
Hustler Fund has launched Tukuze Hub, a business mentorship programme in Nyeri County. The programme targets top-performing borrowers and offers free training and one-on-one support.

## What Happened
[Hustler Fund](/hustler-fund) launched Tukuze Hub in Nyeri County to help selected borrowers strengthen and grow their small businesses.

The programme is being delivered with Strathmore University Business School and the African Management Institute (AMI). It combines business training, financial literacy training (basic money skills like budgeting and record keeping), and one-on-one mentorship.

Hustler Fund CEO Henry Tanui said the initiative signals a shift from only issuing microloans to also helping borrowers build businesses that can survive and grow beyond the first credit cycle. He said the fund has been analysing borrower spending and repayment patterns, and is now emphasising sustainability and job creation.

Nyeri was picked as a pilot location because of its strong repayment record. Over the last four years, about 400,000 residents in the county have borrowed a cumulative KSh 1.84 billion, with a repayment rate of about 91%.

Tanui also shared national figures as of October 7. The fund had issued about KSh 92 billion in loans, with more than KSh 78 billion repaid. Borrowers have also saved about KSh 7 billion through the fund.

One additional focus is credit history. Tanui said the fund is working on a system that can help government use repayment data to build a national credit rating system, meaning a way to score a borrower’s reliability so they can access other loans and financial services.

## Why It Matters
Many micro and small enterprises struggle after receiving credit because they lack business skills, bookkeeping, and customer growth plans. Tukuze Hub is designed to pair capital with practical training, which could improve business survival rates and loan repayment.

If Hustler Fund data is later used for a national credit rating system, borrowers with good repayment habits could unlock cheaper credit and broader access to formal financial products. That could also reduce reliance on repeat small loans and support long-term business growth in Kenya.
