## Content

## In Short
Kenya plans to add KSh5 billion more to the Hustler Fund by the end of 2026. The government says the money will expand access to affordable credit (loans with lower barriers) and support more small businesses.

## What Happened
President William Ruto said the government will inject an additional KSh5 billion into the national Financial Inclusion Fund, better known as the [Hustler Fund](/hustler-fund).

He made the announcement during his Mashujaa Day 2026 address in Eldoret. He said the extra funding will be provided by the end of 2026.

Ruto described the Hustler Fund as a successful programme that has “equalized borrowing” among Kenyans. In simple terms, that means more people can access credit even without traditional requirements like payslips or long bank histories.

He also shared updated usage numbers. Ruto said more than 10 million Kenyans are regular borrowers and KSh98 billion has been advanced without collateral, meaning borrowers do not have to pledge assets like land or vehicles to qualify.

The president linked the credit push to a broader economic story. He said Kenya has seen improvements in inflation, the exchange rate, private sector credit growth, and capital markets since his administration took office in September 2022.

## Why It Matters
A larger Hustler Fund could increase working capital for micro and small businesses that struggle to access bank loans. Working capital is the cash a business uses to pay for day-to-day costs like stock, rent, and wages.

For lenders and fintech operators, the signal is that the government still sees digital, small-ticket lending as part of its financial inclusion strategy. That can shape policy choices, partnerships with banks and mobile money players, and how credit products are priced.

For borrowers, the key questions will be practical. How fast will the KSh5 billion be deployed, what will interest rates and repayment terms look like, and how will defaults be managed as the loan book grows.
