## What Happened
[Heirs Insurance Group](/heirs-insurance-group) disclosed its 2025 results, showing faster top line growth across its insurance businesses in Nigeria.

Combined gross written premiums, meaning the total value of insurance policies sold before deductions, increased 88.5% to ₦115 billion. Insurance revenue, meaning the portion of premiums recognised as earned income after accounting rules, rose 70% to ₦53.4 billion.

The group also reported total assets of ₦169.7 billion. Claims paid climbed 87% to ₦19.4 billion. Claims are the amounts paid out to customers when insured events happen, like accidents, health costs, or property losses.

Despite the growth, combined profit before tax dropped 14.9% to ₦9.53 billion from ₦11.2 billion. The company said foreign-exchange volatility weighed on profitability. FX volatility is when currency rates move sharply, which can increase costs, reduce investment income in local currency terms, or create valuation losses.

## Why It Matters
For Nigeria’s insurance market, rising premiums and rising claims can signal two things at once, stronger customer acquisition and more active policy usage. That combination is important because insurers only build long-term trust when customers both buy cover and get paid when they need it.

The profit decline highlights a familiar issue for financial services firms operating in a weak and unstable currency environment. Even with strong premium growth, underwriting margins and investment returns can be squeezed by FX moves and inflation-linked costs.

For founders and operators building insurance distribution and claims tooling, these numbers reinforce the opportunity in efficiency. Faster claims processing, fraud controls, and better pricing models can help insurers grow without losing profitability when macro conditions turn.
