## In Short
- FarmSpeak won a ₦100 million top prize at InnovateNaija 2026 in Abuja.
- The winning product, PenKeep, is a smart poultry climate control system.
- Organisers said the program has reached more than 3,500 young Nigerians across all states and the FCT.

## What Happened
FarmSpeak won a ₦100 million prize at the InnovateNaija 2026 Final Pitch Event and Awards Ceremony, a national innovation competition backed by the Nigerian Federal Government.

The initiative was implemented through a partnership between NASENI, Nigeria’s National Agency for Science and Engineering Infrastructure, and AfriLabs, a network of tech hubs and startup support organisations.

The overall winner was Adaeze Akpagbula, co-founder of [FarmSpeak](/farmspeak). She presented PenKeep, a smart poultry climate control system. “Smart” here means it uses sensors and control hardware to monitor and adjust conditions like heat and airflow, similar to an automated thermostat setup for farm production.

According to the organisers, the broader program engaged over 3,500 young Nigerians across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory. Fifteen national finalists were recognised at the Abuja event.

The Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Kingsley Udeh, said the government’s focus is to move Nigerian innovations from ideas and prototypes into the marketplace. That includes connecting researchers and builders to investors, industry partners, and other stakeholders who can help commercialise products.

## Why It Matters
First, the ₦100 million support is a prize award, not an equity funding round. That difference matters because a prize does not dilute ownership, but it can still fund product development, testing, and early go-to-market work.

Second, agriculture and climate resilience are practical problem areas where Nigeria has strong demand. Tools that help farmers manage climate conditions can reduce losses and improve output, especially for poultry and other controlled-environment farming.

Third, the government is signalling more interest in commercialization, which means helping innovations reach paying customers, not just winning demo days. Execution, partnerships, and procurement routes will decide whether winners like FarmSpeak turn prize money into real adoption.
