## In Short

- Eskwai announced the public launch of TrueCite on July 31, 2026.
- TrueCite updates Ask Kwame answers to reflect the current position of the law.
- The feature follows a five-week private beta with selected law firms.

## What Happened

Legal research changes fast. Court decisions can refine or overrule earlier cases. Laws can be amended by later legislation or reviewed by a supreme court.

[Eskwai](/eskwai) says its new TrueCite feature aims to reduce the risk of relying on outdated legal principles when using its Ask Kwame legal AI assistant. In simple terms, “grounding” means the system checks the legal sources behind an AI answer, then adjusts the response so it matches the latest legal status, not just the older cited text.

TrueCite was tested in a private beta for five weeks with selected law firms. It is now publicly available and turned on by default. Users can also toggle TrueCite on or off to compare an answer with and without the extra verification step.

The company says TrueCite works by analyzing what happened to a cited case after it was decided. For example, if Ask Kwame cites a 1972 decision, TrueCite checks later judgments that applied, distinguished, or challenged that decision. It then uses that later treatment to refine the final answer.

TrueCite also considers the status of legislation. It checks for later enactments and consolidated versions of laws, so AI-generated drafting and research are less likely to miss amendments.

## Why It Matters

Legal teams are increasingly using AI for research, drafting, and document review. The biggest practical risk is not just hallucinations, it is quietly citing law that has changed.

TrueCite is Eskwai’s attempt to add an always-on “current law” layer to AI responses. If it works as described, it can help lawyers and in-house teams move faster while keeping citations and reasoning closer to what courts and statutes say today.
