## Content

## In Short
Equity Bank and Global Give Back Circle have launched HER Financial Freedom in Isinya, Kajiado County. The program started with 100 women opening their first bank accounts. It will also offer financial education and a pathway to financing.

## What Happened
Equity Bank, through [Equity Bank](/equity-bcdc), and Global Give Back Circle announced the rollout on October 13, 2026. The launch took place in Isinya, Kajiado County, and focused on women who have not previously used formal banking.

The women opened bank accounts on the day. For many of them, this is a first step toward building a financial history, which is the record that helps banks assess whether someone can manage savings and repay credit.

The initiative is part of the HER Financial Freedom Program, created in 2024 through Global Give Back Circle’s partnership with personal finance expert Suze Orman. The program combines savings and lending groups, financial literacy training, personal empowerment workshops, business development support, and cooperative enterprise models. Cooperative enterprise here means women pool resources and work together, like a group-owned business, to earn more stable income.

Equity said participants will go through financial education before any credit assessment. The bank plans to review cash flows, meaning the money coming in and going out of each business, to decide who can qualify for financing.

Equity also said it will introduce participants to Fanikisha, a women-focused set of banking and insurance products. The program will include networking sessions to help participants find markets and business connections.

## Why It Matters
In Kenya, many micro businesses still operate in cash and outside formal financial services. That limits access to credit, insurance, and larger supply opportunities.

Programs like this matter because a bank account can turn informal earnings from beadwork, dairy farming, or small retail into trackable income. That record can improve loan eligibility and help women move from rotating savings groups into formal SME financing.

For Equity, this is also a practical financial inclusion play. It expands the bank’s customer base while building future borrowers who have stronger financial skills and clearer business records.
