# Elucid Launches Uganda Coffee Farmer Health Consortium

Elucid has launched the Uganda Coffee Farmer Health Consortium in Uganda, a €2.5M+ effort to finance healthcare for 65,000 coffee communities.

## What Happened
[Elucid](/elucid) says the Uganda Coffee Farmer Health Consortium is now live across the Greater Masaka, Ankole, and Rwenzori regions.

The consortium brings together coffee companies and public and philanthropic partners to co-fund healthcare access for farmers and their families. “Pre-competitive” means the companies collaborate on shared challenges, like worker health, without competing on the commercial parts of their business.

Elucid is the implementation partner, meaning it will run the day-to-day delivery, coordination, and measurement of the programme.

Elucid said the work started in 2025 through two parallel pilots. One pilot involved Sucafina and JDE Peet’s. Another included Export Trading Group (ETG), Ndugu, and Pure Africa. Both pilots tested whether pooling money and logistics could deliver healthcare services at scale.

After early results, Olam Food Ingredients (ofi) joined to open the approach to more coffee sector players. Current participants named include Agri Evolve, Caffè Borbone, ETG, JDE Peet’s, ofi, Sucafina, and Touton.

## Why It Matters
Healthcare access is a supply chain issue in agriculture. When farmers and workers cannot get care, productivity drops and income becomes less predictable. That raises risk for buyers and exporters.

For tech and impact operators, the consortium model is also a funding and execution pattern worth watching. It blends private sector budgets with public and philanthropic support, then centralises delivery through one implementer. That can reduce duplication and make outcomes easier to track across regions.

If the Uganda model holds, similar pooled health financing structures could expand to other cash crops and markets, especially where rural clinics and insurance coverage are limited.
