## Content

## In Short
- Duplo has partnered with Wema Bank to distribute Duplo’s financial operations software to business customers.
- The software will be offered through Wema Bank’s ALAT Business platform.
- Duplo says it plans to replicate the distribution model with other banks.

## What Happened
Duplo, a Nigerian startup that builds financial operations software for businesses, is using banks as a new growth channel. Financial operations software is the tooling companies use to manage money workflows like payables, approvals, and reconciliation, which is matching payments to invoices.

Wema Bank will distribute Duplo’s software through its business banking platform, [ALAT by Wema](/alat-by-wema). Wema Bank is the first commercial bank to distribute Duplo’s software, according to the company.

Duplo’s CEO, Yele Oyekola, said the startup wants to replicate this approach with other banks. That suggests Duplo is leaning into partner-led sales, instead of relying only on direct signups and outbound sales to individual companies.

The move also fits a wider pattern across African financial services over the last three years. Banks and payment networks have increasingly partnered with fintech startups to offer software tools to business customers, without building those tools in-house.

## Why It Matters
For Duplo, banks can act as a built-in distribution network. Banks already serve thousands of SMEs and larger businesses, and they have existing onboarding, compliance, and support processes. That can reduce customer acquisition costs and speed up adoption.

For banks, bundling third-party business software can help them deepen relationships with merchants and corporate clients. It can also increase deposits and transaction volumes when customers run more payments and collections through the bank.

For the market, more bank-fintech partnerships could shift competition from standalone fintech apps to embedded tools inside business banking platforms. That may change how African SMEs choose finance tools, and who owns the customer relationship over time.
