## Content

## In Short
- Dantown Neobank is opening a waitlist as it expands beyond its crypto exchange.
- The product focuses on cross-border payments, multi-currency balances, and a virtual card.
- Dantown says users will be able to send, receive, convert, and spend from one balance.

## What Happened
Dantown Neobank is launching, with a public waitlist now live. The move marks a shift for [Dantown](/dantown), which built its first eight years around helping Nigerians buy and sell crypto, and convert it to local currency.

In its announcement on August 27, 2026, the company said it is expanding into a broader financial platform. A neobank is a digital-first bank style product, usually built around an app, and often focused on faster onboarding and modern payment features.

Dantown’s new “global” feature is positioned as a single balance that can hold and move value across countries. It targets use cases like freelancers receiving international payments, importers paying suppliers, and travellers spending abroad.

The company says users can send money to recipients in 70+ countries and receive payments from 44+ countries without a foreign bank account. It also plans to support conversions between fiat and crypto, including assets like BTC, ETH, USDT, and XRP. Fiat means government-issued money like naira, cedi, or shilling.

Dantown also highlights spending tools, including paying foreign merchants and funding a virtual card. A virtual card is a card number in an app, like a digital version of a bank card, that can be used for online subscriptions and payments.

## Why It Matters
Many African workers and SMEs still face payment blocks across borders, including limited access to foreign accounts, slow bank transfers, and high fees.

Dantown’s bet is that the same rails used for crypto on and off-ramps can support broader multi-currency and cross-border payment needs. If it executes well, it could compete more directly with other African fintechs offering international accounts, card products, and global payouts.

The big question will be how Dantown handles licensing, compliance, and reliability as it moves from exchange services into a neobank-style product that touches more parts of everyday finance.
