## Content

## In Short
CrissCross has raised an undisclosed investment from Circle Ventures. The deal was made through Stitch Group, CrissCross’s parent company. The funding supports CrissCross’s stablecoin settlement push for enterprise customers.

## What Happened: How CrissCross Plans To Use The Money
[CrissCross](/crisscross), a South Africa-headquartered cross-border payments infrastructure company, said it has secured an undisclosed investment from Circle Ventures. Circle Ventures is the corporate venture arm of Circle Internet Group, the company that issues USD Coin (USDC), a digital stablecoin.

The investment was made through Stitch Group. CrissCross said it will use the backing to expand local payment connections and liquidity, build more stablecoin settlement capabilities for enterprise customers, and grow the team supporting clients across the continent.

James Cope, general manager at CrissCross, said: “Africa’s cross-border payments market is massive, complex, and underserved. Circle Ventures’ investment validates what we’ve been building: infrastructure that can handle that complexity at scale.”

CrissCross was founded by Lex Campbell and Byron Coetsee to make cross-border payments more efficient for enterprise businesses operating in African markets. The company was acquired early by Stitch and now sits within Stitch Group, described as a South Africa-based payments group.

CrissCross provides businesses with a single application programming interface (API), meaning one set of technical connectors that can be used across multiple services, to collect money, make payouts, manage funds and exchange currencies across African markets.

## Why It Matters: Stablecoins Keep Moving Into Payments Infrastructure
The story points to stablecoins becoming a bigger part of Africa’s payments infrastructure for cross-border money movement. The article also notes this is Circle’s second notable bet on the sector in 2026, after it invested in Nigerian fintech Flutterwave to expand USDC settlement across Flutterwave’s payments platform.
