## Content

## In Short
- CreditChek has acquired Algosys, a Ugandan core banking and lending software startup.
- The deal is CreditChek’s first move into East Africa.
- Algosys will continue operating as a subsidiary in Uganda.

## What Happened
Nigerian fintech [CreditChek ](/creditchek) has completed the acquisition of Algosys, a Uganda-based startup that sells core banking and lending software to local financial institutions.

Core banking software is the system a lender runs on to manage customer accounts, loans, repayments, and reporting. It is similar to the “engine room” behind a bank or microfinance app.

Algosys was founded in 2024 by Innocent Bigega and Simon Tayebwa. The company says it serves 22 financial institutions in Uganda, including lenders, microfinance institutions, and SACCOs. SACCOs are savings and credit cooperatives, member-owned groups that lend to their members.

Algosys also says its platform has supported more than 10,000 SACCO loans.

CreditChek is known for credit assessment infrastructure, meaning tools that help lenders judge risk and decide who gets a loan. The company recently raised $600,000 and has been positioning itself as a broader lending infrastructure provider, not only a credit data layer.

CreditChek CEO Kingsley Ibe said the goal is to help lenders handle more of the loan lifecycle in one place, from customer acquisition to risk checks, credit decisions, loan origination, and loan management. Loan origination is the process of creating and issuing a new loan, including checks, approvals, and documentation.

## Why It Matters
Many lenders across Africa still stitch together multiple vendors for identity checks, credit scoring, underwriting, loan management, and collections. That can raise costs and slow down product launches.

By buying Algosys, CreditChek adds a core banking and loan management layer to its stack. That could let it sell more software to the same customer and become harder to replace.

The acquisition also gives CreditChek a built-in distribution channel in Uganda through Algosys’ existing institutional customers. Still, the company says it plans to adapt to local regulations and lending practices, rather than copy its Nigeria playbook.

For Uganda’s fintech and microfinance market, the deal signals growing interest from West African infrastructure players that want regional scale, especially in lending and credit risk tools.
