## What Happened
Consolidated Bank Ghana (CBG) has launched the CBG PWD Inclusion Loan Initiative, a dedicated credit programme for persons with disabilities in Ghana.

The bank announced the initiative during its Disability Conference at the Du Bois Centre in Cantonments on September 11. CBG says the goal is to move beyond basic bank access, like account ownership, towards enterprise development.

The new programme provides concessionary loans, meaning loans offered on more favourable terms than standard market credit, such as lower interest rates or more flexible repayment. It also includes financial literacy training, which is practical education on budgeting, record keeping, and how to manage debt without damaging cash flow.

CBG Deputy Managing Director Sheila Azuntaba said inclusion should connect people to knowledge, capital, and markets. She added that beneficiaries were selected based on their commitment to building enterprises and their potential to grow.

The initiative is being implemented in partnership with the Korklu Foundation. The foundation’s founder, Dorcas Naa Korklu Afotey, said the programme is meant to help PWD entrepreneurs expand their businesses and contribute more meaningfully to their families and communities.

CBG also positioned the loan initiative as the next step after its earlier PWD Financial Inclusion Programme. Under that programme, 119 participants were onboarded, with the bank funding minimum opening balances and granting service-fee waivers to reduce barriers to formal banking.

Across Africa, financial inclusion metrics often focus on how many people have accounts. Programmes like this shift the focus to access to credit and business capability, which is what small businesses need to grow.

For founders, operators, and investors watching the Ghanaian market, the move signals that banks are looking for more targeted lending models. It also shows a growing role for partnerships with civil society groups to find credible borrowers and provide non-financial support.
