## In Short
Condia data shows which investors backed African startups most in H1 2026. Cascador was the most active investor by deal count.

## What Happened
Cascador topped Condia’s list of the eight most active investors in African startups in the first half of 2026. The ranking tracks investor participation across 146 deals.

African startups raised more than $1 billion in H1 2026. Fintech attracted a large share of that capital, reflecting how payments, lending, and banking infrastructure still dominate many funding rounds.

Condia’s data also shows more than 200 investors took part in deals across the continent. That points to broad interest, even as many founders describe the market as tougher than the 2021 to 2022 peak.

Cascador is a Lagos-based accelerator and not-for-profit that backs growth-stage businesses. It has also written checks into tech-enabled companies, including [Sycamore](/sycamore), as well as training platform Utiva and logistics player Fez Delivery.

At its 2026 Pitch Day, Cascador awarded about $5.6 million in catalytic funding plus $20,000 in prizes to seven Nigerian startups. Catalytic capital is early money designed to unlock larger follow-on funding, similar to a “starter motor” for a car. The largest award went to [Agriarche](/agriarche).

International Finance Corporation, the World Bank Group’s private sector arm, also ranked among the most active investors in H1 2026. IFC acted as a direct investor and as an LP, meaning it supplies funding to other venture funds.

## Why It Matters
The list highlights a split in how capital is showing up in Africa.

Development finance institutions such as IFC, British International Investment, and others are still key for capital-intensive sectors like clean energy, electric mobility, and healthcare infrastructure.

Meanwhile, accelerators and catalytic funders are outpacing traditional lead VCs by deal count. That can keep pipelines moving, but it can also mean fewer large, conviction checks for startups trying to scale fast across multiple markets.
