## Content

## In Short
- Britam’s profit before tax for the six months to June 30, 2026 rose 52% to KSh 3.8 billion.
- Insurance revenue grew 13.7% to KSh 22.4 billion.
- Interest and dividend income increased to KSh 12.0 billion.

## What Happened
Britam reported a stronger first-half performance for the period ended June 30, 2026. The insurer said profit before tax rose 52% year on year to KSh 3.8 billion, up from KSh 2.5 billion.

Insurance revenue increased 13.7% to KSh 22.4 billion, from KSh 19.7 billion. Britam said this was supported by growth across its Life and General Insurance businesses, plus distribution and partnership networks across its markets.

The company also pointed to improved underwriting performance. Underwriting is how an insurer prices risk and decides what it can cover. Britam said its net insurance service result, a measure of the profit from insurance services after claims and related costs, grew 36% to KSh 1.8 billion.

On investments, interest and dividend income rose to KSh 12.0 billion. Britam said this was driven by disciplined portfolio management and continued optimisation of its investments.

Britam also reported a larger balance sheet. Total assets rose to KSh 270.8 billion, and total equity increased to KSh 37.6 billion.

## Why It Matters
For [Britam](/britam), stronger underwriting and higher investment income can improve the quality of earnings, not just top-line growth. That matters for insurers operating in volatile markets where claims costs and interest rates can move quickly.

The results also set an early marker for Britam’s ASCEND 2026 to 2030 strategy, which the company says is focused on African expansion, customer-led product development, operational execution, and digital transformation. If the group sustains this mix of underwriting discipline and investment returns, it may have more room to fund distribution growth and new digital capabilities while maintaining capital strength.
