## What Happened
[Breet](/breet) announced on September 16, 2026 that it has achieved ISO/IEC 27001:2022 certification. ISO/IEC 27001 is a global standard for running an information security management system, or ISMS, which is the way a company organises people, processes, and tools to protect data.

Breet said the certification came after an independent audit of how it manages information security. It also positioned the milestone as a continuation of its compliance work after securing PCI DSS certification.

PCI DSS is a security standard focused on protecting payment card data. ISO/IEC 27001 is broader, it covers how a business identifies risks, assigns ownership, applies safeguards, and proves those safeguards work over time.

In its blog post, Breet described ISO/IEC 27001 as more than a one-time checklist. The company highlighted that the standard involves meeting core requirements and mapping controls across areas like organisational practices, staff training, physical security, and technology controls.

## Why It Matters
For fintechs and crypto off-ramp providers, security certifications are increasingly a baseline for partnerships. Banks, payment processors, and enterprise clients often ask for proof of controls before they integrate APIs or allow access to customer data.
