## What Happened: Bolt Food Quickmart Grocery Delivery In Kenya
[Bolt Food](/bolt-food) has signed a partnership with Quickmart Supermarkets in Nairobi to offer on-demand grocery delivery. That means customers can order groceries and household essentials, not just meals, using the same delivery app.

Bolt says the rollout gives shoppers access to more than 12,000 products. The catalogue covers fresh groceries, beverages, wellness items, and household goods. Orders will be fulfilled from over 60 Quickmart stores nationwide, then delivered to a customer’s doorstep.

Bolt Food General Manager for Kenya and Ghana Ali Zaryab said the move is part of a broader plan to turn Bolt Food into a multi-category platform. In practice, that is an app that handles different everyday purchases, like a digital mall with delivery.

Quickmart, which says it is marking 20 years in operation, positioned the partnership as a convenience play. The retailer said it expects the integration to improve customer experience and expand its digital reach, supported by its store network that is nearing 70 locations.

## Why It Matters: Kenya Quick Commerce And Gig Work
This is another signal that Kenya’s quick commerce market is heating up. Quick commerce is on-demand retail, where groceries and essentials are delivered fast, often from nearby stores.

For Bolt, adding groceries can increase order frequency, since households restock basics more often than they order restaurant meals. It also creates another demand stream for couriers.

Bolt cited its Bolt-Ipsos Gig Economy Report, which estimates platform work supports around 1.5 million workers in Kenya and contributes over Ksh 100 billion annually. As more delivery categories go live, competition may shift from just delivery speed to product selection, store coverage, and reliable courier supply.
