## Content

## In Short
- Blnk Finance MCP is now in beta, and it connects AI tools to a Blnk ledger.
- It enables natural-language queries for transactions, balances, and customer records.
- Access is controlled with scoped API keys, so agents only see what you allow.

## What Happened
[Blnk Finance](/blnk-finance) has introduced an MCP beta that lets AI agents query ledger data using natural language. A ledger here means the system of record for money movement, similar to an accounting book but built for software.

The feature is delivered through an MCP endpoint. MCP stands for Model Context Protocol, a standard that helps AI apps connect to external tools and data sources in a structured way. In practice, this means a developer can configure an MCP-compatible client like Cursor, Claude Desktop, ChatGPT, or VS Code to ask questions such as “show today’s failed transactions” or “what is the current balance for this customer,” and receive results from the ledger.

Blnk says access can be limited using API keys or OAuth scopes, including an `mcp:read` permission. That limits what the agent can do, like giving it read-only access rather than the ability to create or modify transactions.

The setup page also describes how Blnk Cloud proxies requests to the underlying Core instance. Put simply, agents do not hit the ledger core directly, and requests are authenticated and routed through Blnk’s cloud layer.

Blnk also offers a separate Documentation MCP endpoint, which lets an agent read the live docs for implementation details and best practices. The MCP beta page was published or indexed on August 23, 2026.

## Why It Matters
Fintech and marketplaces increasingly want “ledger ops” to work like asking a teammate a question. Natural-language ledger queries can speed up support, reconciliation, and audit workflows, especially when teams are small.

Scoped permissions also matter. Many teams are cautious about giving AI tools direct access to financial systems. A read-only, narrowly scoped connector can reduce risk while still improving visibility.

For African startups building in regulated environments, this type of controlled AI access could become a practical way to monitor transactions and investigate issues without expanding human access to sensitive data.
