## What Happened
9 Payment Service Bank, also known as [9PSB](/9psb), has rolled out a Bank9ja Refer and Earn incentive targeting students in Nigeria.

Refer and Earn is a referral rewards program, it pays you when someone signs up with your invite code and completes certain actions. In this case, the actions are bill payments inside the app, such as buying airtime, subscribing to data, and paying other bills.

According to the bank, transfers do not count toward rewards for this feature. A user earns ₦1,000 when each referred person completes four or more bill payment transactions totalling ₦10,000 within 30 days. If the referred user does fewer than four transactions, or spends less than ₦10,000 in total, the referrer still earns ₦200 per referral.

To use it, customers open the Bank9ja app, go to Quick Actions, select Refer and Earn, then share their unique referral code or link.

## Why It Matters
Student focused fintech marketing is getting more direct in Nigeria, and referrals remain a cost controlled way to drive app adoption. Instead of broad cashback, this Bank9ja incentive ties rewards to repeat usage, specifically bill payments.
