## Content

## In Short
- Bank of Uganda approved Fabian Kasi as CEO of Centenary Rural Development Group Limited.
- The approval clears his move from Centenary Bank Uganda to the group holding company.
- The group is expected to focus on a listing plan, regional expansion, and new business lines.

## What Happened
Bank of Uganda has approved Fabian Kasi as chief executive officer of Centenary Rural Development Group Limited, the holding company behind Centenary’s financial services businesses.

The approval was issued in a letter dated August 13, 2026, addressed to the group’s board chair. It is the last major step needed for Kasi’s appointment to take effect.

Kasi left his role as managing director of [Centenary Bank](/centenary-bank) Uganda at the end of June 2026. Godfrey Byekwaso took over as managing director on July 1, 2026.

Kasi spent 16 years running the bank. During that period, the bank’s assets grew from UGX 807.2 billion to UGX 8.61 trillion, according to the report. The story also notes growth across other measures such as loans, deposits, income, and net profit.

## Why It Matters
For Uganda’s banking sector, Bank of Uganda sign-off matters because it is a regulatory gate for top leadership roles in supervised financial institutions. It is part of the central bank’s fit-and-proper checks, which assess experience, integrity, and governance readiness.

For Centenary, the move shifts Kasi from operating a single bank to setting strategy across the wider group. That can change priorities for digital transformation, new product lines, and capital planning.

The report links Kasi’s mandate to a proposed listing, regional expansion, and diversification into insurance and investment management. If those plans advance, they could reshape how the group competes for deposits, distributes financial products, and funds growth in Uganda and nearby markets.
