## Content

## In Short
- Banco BIC and Banco de Desenvolvimento de Angola, BDA, signed a cooperation agreement on August 31, 2026.
- The deal focuses on stronger compliance, security information sharing, and joint risk management.
- The target areas are money laundering and terrorist financing controls.

## What Happened
[Banco BIC](/banco-bic) and the Banco de Desenvolvimento de Angola, BDA, have signed a cooperation agreement to strengthen anti-money laundering work across their operations.

The agreement is designed to improve how the two banks share security information and coordinate compliance. Compliance means the internal rules and checks a bank uses to follow laws and reduce risk.

The banks said the focus is on preventing and fighting money laundering, which is the act of disguising illegal money as legitimate funds, and terrorist financing, which is providing money or support for terrorist activity.

On Banco BIC’s side, the agreement was signed by administrators Ricardo Cortez and Aleixo Afonso. On BDA’s side, it was signed by João Quintas, President of the Executive Commission, and administrator Carla Gomes.

## Why It Matters
For Angola’s financial system, stronger coordination between major institutions can make monitoring suspicious transactions faster and more consistent.

Better information sharing can also improve risk controls around payments, transfers, and other financial operations where illicit activity may try to hide.

The agreement also highlights growing attention on customer data protection and operational security. This matters as more banking services move online and fraud and compliance expectations rise.
