## Content

## In Short
Bamboo users in Nigeria hit login failures on September 14 as traffic spiked during the Dangote Refinery public offer. Bamboo said demand exceeded what its systems were set up to handle.

## What Happened
Investment app [Bamboo](/bamboo) experienced login failures on Monday after many users tried to access the Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals FZE public offer.

Some investors said they could not get into their accounts. This mattered because the offer is positioned as a major retail moment, meaning it targets everyday investors, not only institutions.

Bamboo confirmed the disruption on X. The company said traffic was much higher than expected, and it was affecting logins.

Bamboo said it was working on a fix and that access would return “shortly,” but it did not give a clear timeline.

## Why It Matters
This incident highlights a recurring issue for African fintech and wealth apps, reliability under peak demand. When platforms fail at key moments, users lose time and confidence, even if their money is safe.

The Dangote Refinery offer is being distributed digitally at scale. Reports say the IPO opened at about ₦2.15 trillion and is available through roughly 55 approved electronic channels, including bank apps, brokerage platforms, and other retail investing apps.

It also shows how much of Nigeria’s equities participation is shifting to mobile channels. Nairametrics previously reported that Bamboo accounted for 3.8 million equity transactions, about 22% of all equity deals on the Nigerian Exchange between January and July 2026.

Other digital channels named in reports for accessing the offer include [Cowrywise](/cowrywise), [PiggyVest](/piggyvest), and [Meritrade](/meritrade). For investors, that means having alternative routes can help when one app is unavailable.

The broader backdrop is a volatile market. Nigerian equities rallied strongly in early 2026, then saw a correction, which can further raise demand for high-profile listings as investors look for the next opportunity.
