## Content

## In Short
- Ayosifam says its August 2026 production run avoided burning 450 litres of diesel.
- The company reports 1,458 kg CO₂e in avoided lifecycle emissions and a direct footprint reduction of 804 kg CO₂e per tonne of flour.
- It also claims ₦877,000 in monthly operating cost savings from switching away from diesel.

## What Happened: Ayosifam Solar Thermal Drying and PV Lighting Update
[Ayosifam](/ayosifam) says it has pushed more of its flour processing operations onto solar power, according to a sustainability and clean energy report published on September 19, 2026. The report covers a 30-day operational cycle in August 2026.

The company says it replaced a diesel-powered thermal system with an “integrated solar thermal dryer system”. Solar thermal means it uses heat from the sun to dry produce, similar to sun drying, but done in a controlled machine so temperature and airflow are more consistent.

Alongside heat, Ayosifam says it used solar photovoltaic power for 100% of factory lighting. Photovoltaic, or PV, is the standard solar panel setup that converts sunlight into electricity.

On carbon reporting, the company says it calculated emissions reductions using the GHG Protocol and US EPA methods. It reports 1,206 kg CO₂e avoided from direct diesel combustion, and 1,458 kg CO₂e avoided when including fuel production and transport, also called well-to-wheel lifecycle emissions.

Ayosifam also links the switch to product quality claims across potato, cassava, millet, and sorghum flour. It says regulated solar drying reduces the risk of soot and particulate contamination associated with combustion-based drying.

## Why It Matters: Cost Control and Clean Energy in Agro-Processing
Diesel is a major cost line for many Nigerian processors, and prices can swing quickly. If Ayosifam’s reported ₦877,000 monthly savings holds over longer cycles, it points to solar heat as a practical hedge against fuel volatility.

It also signals a shift in how agro-processing firms talk about sustainability. More operators are quantifying Scope 1 emissions, direct fuel use on site, and Scope 2 emissions, indirect emissions from grid electricity, to meet buyer, lender, and partner reporting needs.

For readers tracking climate and energy software, this kind of reporting is also where tools like [CarbonEx](/carbonex) can fit, by helping teams structure emissions data and audit trails as clean energy projects scale.
