## Content

## In Short
Andela says it helped Nexford University build Nex-OS, an AI-powered operating system for a global online university. The platform uses Claude tools to support curriculum design, assessment, enrollment, finance, and internal operations.

## What Happened
In an October 1, 2026 case study, [Andela](/andela) described a project with Nexford University to build Nex-OS.

Nex-OS is presented as a university-wide “operating system”, meaning a shared platform that connects workflows across teams instead of running separate tools for each department.

The system uses Claude Code and the Claude API. An API is a connector that lets software talk to other software. Claude Code is described as an AI coding assistant, it can help engineers write and review software. The case study also referenced MCP, short for Model Context Protocol, which is a way to pass structured context into AI tools so they can work with internal systems more reliably.

Andela said the platform includes human review and approval for consequential decisions. That can mean a person must confirm an outcome before it is applied to learners or operations.

## Why It Matters
Nexford’s problem was scale. It needed to keep roughly 200 courses aligned with changing employer demand and still give learners feedback without adding proportional staff workload.

Andela reported early results that point to where AI is being used first in online higher education operations. These include 525,424 enrollment contacts analyzed and scored, 2,000 hours of analyst time saved by using AI to build a taxonomy instead of doing it manually, and 1,447 learner submissions graded through an AI-supported assessment system.

It also reported 425 curriculum gaps identified across 69 courses using AI-powered diagnostics. For universities and edtech operators, the pitch is clear, AI can help turn large, messy datasets into repeatable processes for enrollment, assessment, and course updates.
