## In Short
AltSchool Africa has a new CEO.

Adewale Yusuf has stepped down as CEO after five years.

Co-founder Akintunde Sultan takes over with immediate effect.

## What Happened: Leadership Change At AltSchool Africa
AltSchool Africa said Adewale Yusuf has stepped down as CEO after five years at the helm. The company said co-founder Akintunde Sultan will take over the role with immediate effect.

Yusuf co-founded AltSchool Africa with Sultan and Opeyemi Awoyemi in 2021. After stepping down, Yusuf said he would remain involved in a leadership capacity. He also said he wants to spend more time with his family in the US.

“It’s time for me to move away and actually support the team from maybe the director and leadership point. I just realised that it would be good for my co-founder to take over, and I can now spend more time with my family here in the US,” Yusuf said.

AltSchool Africa said it has reached more than 200,000 users under Yusuf’s leadership. Sultan said the next phase will focus less on increasing that user number and more on delivering greater value to existing users.

## Why It Matters: A Push Beyond Skills Training
AltSchool Africa is tying that shift to an initiative called Degree. Degree is a programme where AltSchool Africa partners with universities to offer degree pathways, similar to platforms such as edX.

AltSchool Africa said it currently offers courses through partnerships with the American Open University of Nigeria and Germany’s Tomorrow University. The company said these partnerships allow students to pursue degrees in fields ranging from cybersecurity to information technology.

AltSchool Africa also said Degree builds on a longer ambition to bridge alternative education and formal university qualifications. It said it explored a partnership with Michael and Cecilia Ibru University in 2022.

With Sultan now leading, the company said it will focus on strengthening the value of its offerings as it expands its education model beyond skills training.
