## Content

## In Short
Absa Bank Mozambique and M-PESA signed a memorandum of understanding at FACIM 2026.

The deal focuses on tighter integration between mobile money and bank accounts for Mozambican businesses.

A key outcome is linking Paga Fácil merchant collections to Absa bank accounts with near real-time settlement.

## What Happened
Absa Bank Mozambique and [M-PESA](/m-pesa) formalised an MoU at the Maputo International Trade Fair, FACIM 2026. The two organisations said the goal is to develop solutions that improve access to, and day-to-day management of, financial services.

The partnership builds on earlier work between the bank and the mobile money network. Mobile money is a phone-based wallet that lets people store value and make transfers without using a traditional bank account.

One of the first announced steps is an integration between Paga Fácil and Absa bank accounts. Paga Fácil is a merchant collection service that lets customers pay a business digitally, often through a mobile money channel.

With the integration, merchants can transfer funds received via Paga Fácil straight into their Absa accounts. Absa said this should be simple and secure, and it will be offered at no cost to the customer.

The two parties also said settlement, meaning the moment the money becomes available in the receiving account, can happen within minutes. They added that the flow should make reconciliation easier, which is the process of matching incoming payments to sales records.

## Why It Matters
For merchants, fast settlement can reduce cash flow gaps. It also lowers the friction of moving money from a mobile money wallet into a bank account to pay suppliers, salaries, or taxes.

For agent networks, the MoU signals more focus on liquidity management. Liquidity here means having enough cash or balance on hand to meet customer withdrawals and day-to-day transactions.

For Mozambique’s digital finance ecosystem, the announcement points to deeper “rail” integration, meaning mobile money and banking systems working more like one connected network. That can make digital payments more reliable for businesses that already depend on mobile money to collect revenue.
