Starting May 2018, users reported being unable to transact and losing funds on the app; the company went silent on Twitter and Facebook through June 2018; a July 2018 in-app notice said the service was 'temporarily not available' with vague promises of updates.

## What happened

Following widespread transaction failures and user fund losses beginning in May 2018, Zoto stopped communicating on social media and left users with only a vague in-app notice in July 2018. Co-founder Oshone Emmanuel Ikazoboh confirmed the closure on Twitter on August 16, 2018 with 'not all startups survive unfortunately,' and the shutdown was reported in press by August 20, 2018; some sources suggested a possible restructuring rather than permanent closure, but no relaunch occurred.
