The right choice depends on where you bank (Kenya, Uganda, or Tanzania), how often you move money across borders, and whether you rely on branch, app, or an agent network. Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) is a regional East African commercial bank serving customers in Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania via country-specific banking sites and a physical network. DTB traces its roots to the Diamond Jubilee Investment Trust, founded in 1945 in Dar es Salaam, and it sold its 83.67% stake in Diamond Trust Bank Burundi in a deal that closed on 31 December 2025; as of mid-2025, the group reported around 150 branches across its three core markets and consolidated assets of about KES 612 billion (about $4.7 billion). People tend to search for Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) alternatives when they need a bank with wider country coverage than DTB’s three-market footprint, or they want a different balance between branch access, digital banking, and cash-in or cash-out via an agent network. Others are comparing options because DTB refocused on Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania after its Burundi exit that completed on 31 December 2025. None of this makes Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) a poor choice; it means the market now has specialists worth comparing. ## What to Compare When Choosing a Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Alternative - **Country availability**: start with banks that operate where you live and where you get paid, not just where you travel. - **Branch and ATM reach**: if you deposit cash often, pick a bank with convenient branches and ATMs in your daily routes. - **Agent network support**: check if the bank supports agent banking for cash-in and cash-out, especially outside major towns. - **Digital banking maturity**: confirm the bank offers web and mobile banking that match how you transact day to day. - **Business banking fit (B2B)**: for SMEs, compare business accounts and collections options, not only personal accounts. - **Personal banking depth (B2C)**: if you are banking as an individual, compare cards, transfers, and self-service tools you will use weekly. - **Cross-border footprint**: if you move between markets, prioritise banks with a presence across more African countries.
